Today I spoke with a young woman who was experiencing a job shift due to cut backs. She had been disappointed, but she pulled herself together so that she could work without looking disappointed. She got through the week, and then as is her habit, she went to church on Sunday. She was sitting and hoping that there would be a word for her, when her priest said something that just stuck in her heart. He began to quote the Serenity Prayer. "Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
As she went through that day she saw that prayer over and over again. She thought it was interesting that she saw it in so many places, but didn't really stop to reflect. Later that afternoon, she and her mom went shopping. They went into a place that had little things that could be used to decorate a room. She found a poster that she thought had a beautiful background and on closer inspection, she found that it had the serenity prayer at the bottom. She and her mom found 3 more beautiful posters for their wall, and quite by accident they discovered on each one, even though they were different pictures, and located in different sections of that area, that they all had the serenity prayer on them. She said that she finally looked up to the heavens and said, "o.k. God, I've got it". Her peace returned to her, and she knew that God had the situation well in hand, and that He would indeed "Make all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose."
Today, as you read in the paper, or see around you, so many things that are changing, make sure you ask God to help you "accept the things you cannot change", "have the courage to change the things that you can, and most of all that He would bless you with "the wisdom to know the difference".
God Bless. He will make today better than yesterday for you if you let Him. Just believe.
