DELIVERANCE IN THE 3 DIMENSIONS OF MAN

Scripture tells us that we were created in the image of God.  It also tells us that God is a spirit and if we are to worship Him, we must worship Him in spirit and in truth- John 4:24.  We can worship Him in spirit because we ourselves are spirits.  In 1 Thessalonians 5:3 the apostle Paul says "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."  This helps us to understand that we are humans existing in 3 parts - body, soul and spirit.
In Hebrews 4:12-13 we read that the Word of God can separate even our soul and spirit and our bone and marrow.  If our soul and spirit can be separated, they aren't the same thing.  From these scriptures and many others we discern that we are a spirit, we live in a body and we possess a soul.  We know that this is true because when we are about to do something that isn't right, our body reacts in a negative way.  For example we get nervous ticks, we blush, we start to sweat, our hearts begin to beat quickly, or we move anxiously.  Our mind may be leading us to think it's the way to go while even our body is rejecting the idea.  Some people go by their own philosophy,  you know...act now and ask forgiveness later..., but our spirit understands that what we are deciding to do, for example gossip, betray someone, lie, speak using foul words, "borrow" without asking is against the will of God.  Our mind, or 'will'  may become determined to do something while our bodies and spirit are against it.  Once our mind is made up, our bodies often become the victim to our poor choices, like smoking for example.

Basically, we are spirits who live in bodies and possess a soul.  Our spirit is what connects us with God.  It lives on even when our body is gone as can be seen in scriptures.  King Saul called up the prophet Samuel who had long since been dead (1 Samuel 28:3).  His body had decayed, but Samuel's spirit lived on.  Once, when Jesus asked his disciples to wait and pray with Him, He was seen talking with Moses and Elijah who had been dead for many centuries(Mathew 17: 1-9).   Matthew 27:52 tells us that after Jesus' resurrection many of the holy ones who had died before came out into the city.  It sounds like a science fiction movie, but it's in our scripture.

Faith is a critical part of prayer and deliverance.  How often did Jesus note that faith was needed for healing and deliverance?  He
Our faith comes from our spirit connecting with God the way a plug for a lamp connects into a wall socket.  The lamp comes on when it receives power.  Our spirit communes with God when it is plugged in to him.  Our body is designed to allow us to exist on earth.  Our mind helps us to understand and rule over the earth and the living creatures that God told us to rule over.

When we get hooked into anything other than God, we are not "plugged in" correctly.  We get bad messages like a bad connection.  Sometimes it leads to addictions.  We can be addicted to almost anything.  Addiction can resemble worship.  We who are Christians only worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  If we become addicted to something other than God, we need to be able to get rid of that addiction.  That brings me back to our original theme.  In that we are living beings with 3 dimensions (spirit, body and soul),  every part of us needs to be addressed.  The word of God shows us how Jesus rebuked evil spirits and cast them out in order to set people free.  Here he was dealing with spiritual beings and spiritual things.  He often told people to go and sin no more when he was delivering or healing them from things that were creating problems.  This is dealing with the habit that was developed with the mind and passed on to the body.  We have to remember that when we deal with spiritual problems we need to also address the physical and the mental aspect of a human being.
In order to perform a successful deliverance from negative behavior we must:
1.  deal with the spirit and the spiritual misfiring.  Pray in Faith.
2.The habit of doing things that are bad for us and oppositional to God must be eliminated by practicing a new habit that will replace it with good things and positive results.
3.We must use faith and positive thinking to avoid the thoughts that lead to the negative habitual behaviors. ("Submit yourselves to God, then resist the devil and he will flee from you". James 4:7)

Once we have dealt with all three parts of a person, deliverance is successful.   I do believe in spiritual deliverance and in fact have been witness to, and have been blessed to be instrumental in biblical deliverance.  God CAN do anything.  However, I am in no way saying that all medicine and medical practice is useless.  I am by no means advocating that anyone should remove themselves or others from the care of a doctor.  The disciple Luke was called the beloved physician (Colossians 4:14), so we know that Jesus believed that doctors have a great purpose.  However, there are times when doctors are at a loss, or when behaviors like smoking, or lying, or other offensive behaviors aren't serious enough so that a doctor feels it is worth his or her time, that we go to our deliverance training given by God.  Also, there have been times when people who are born again and filled with the spirit were asked to pray for others who were already in psychiatric care.  After prayer, some of the patients were observed, tested and found to be ready to go out into society.  (God healed them).  Remember that there are some things that can only be cured by fasting and prayer.  Matthew 17:15-20 and remember that we are 3 in one.  Deal with all 3- spiritual influence, habits and thoughts, and finally behavior.
Always seek God and His wisdom for direction.
