Part 5 - Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
The last verse of the 23rd Psalm says "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever". This last verse is pretty self explanatory. The psalmist is saying that because of the experiences in his life with God, he believes. The psalmist (David) knows that his life will be filled with goodness an mercy because he serves a good and merciful God.
Our God shows us goodness and mercy in so many ways. We aren't always even aware of it. We sometimes attribute the goodness of God to luck, or to our self made reputation, or to a favor that another person did for us. It doesn't always occur to us that God who knows all has been working behind the scenes and sometimes in plain sight to make sure that things work out for our good. Sometimes things that we think we want so badly don't work out at all. It isn't that God isn't listening, it's that we didn't make good choices and we can't see to the end of our days, so we don't know what would hurt us if that particular desire came to pass. Goodness and Mercy. We need it. If you look for it, you will find it. To be given the gift of goodness and mercy every day of your life is an incredible thing. Jesus died on the cross for us to take away our sins so that we could be in the presence of God one day and so that we can commune with Him today. Goodness and Mercy..... "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that who ever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
David's final thought on this matter was that he would live serving and acknowledging God every day of his life.
If you would like to know that you will be spending eternity with the God of love, say this sinners prayer with me. Jesus tells us in John 3:7, " You should not be surprised at this saying, You Must Be Born Again."
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I confess that I am a sinner. Please forgive me for my sins and wash them away. Make me clean, Lord. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and that he was raised again on the 3rd day. I believe that he sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. Well, that's what Romans 10:9-10 tells us to do. You are now born again if you meant what you said. Find a bible believing bible preaching church and join the bible study. It's the quickest way to see what a church is all about. Stay as close to the Word as you can. Happy Re-birth Day!!
