In Search of Perfection

In search of perfection
Life is full of ups and downs.  We experience anxiety, failure, trip ups, near misses, embarrassments, and mistakes galore.  It’s just a part of life, but we don’t give ourselves a break.  We live in a world where we feel as though we have permanently failed and will have storm troopers at our door any minute if we make a mistake.  Why, I’m getting a little anxious just writing this down, and the Spirit of the Lord is telling me what to say.  I should be perfectly calm, and the thought of all this is making me nervous.  What in the world, are we thinking?  Perhaps we are thinking of the judgment and ridicule, or even the swift rebuke that may come our way if we make a mistake.  Well as He said earlier, mistakes do occur.  They are part of the learning curve.  Actually we need to loosen up.  We have even been trained by television and music to look for the perfect person when we are looking for a partner for life.  This is just preposterous.  Have we forgotten that we aren’t perfect?  Here’s a little something we all need to keep in our shirts.  Jesus is, was, and ever will be the only perfect person.  He knows we are imperfect, and he loves us just the same.  In fact, he loves us so much that He sent his only son, our savior Jesus Christ.
The reason that he gives grace, mercy, and forgiveness freely is that God knows we are going to make mistakes.  They are like cookies on a tray just waiting for us to pick them up.   Did you make a mistake today with your kids?  Go pick up a forgiveness cookie, forgive yourself, ask them for forgiveness, and keep it moving.  If it’s possible, try the whole scenario again.  Did you get to work late?  Pick up a mercy cookie and go into your boss’s office to give the explanation and wait for mercy.  After all, you’re a child of the king.  Did you let the wrong word slip, turn in the wrong report, or make some other mistake?  Well, the storm troopers aren’t coming.  No one will beat your door down, and you’ll get the opportunity for a do over.  You’re a child of the king.  Pick up your grace cookie and keep it moving.  Don’t start to worry about the cookie supply.  There is an automatic instant refill above that plate.

The enemy of the people of God loves to play with our minds.  He makes us worry when the Word of God clearly tells us NOT to worry.  Phillipians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing…”  Over and over the Word of God tells us to “Fear Not” and yet we find ourselves in a constant state of fear.  Well, “God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear, but one of peace, of power, and of a sound mind”.  If God didn’t give it, shake it off.  Ignore fear and anxiety.  It’s not coming from God, it’s coming from the enemy.  We don’t want anything from him.  Relax.  Cover your heart. The helmet of salvation keeps the Word of God constantly flowing through your mind.  It protects you from the lies and tricks of the enemy, which end up giving us anxiety, high blood pressure, stress and disease from stress, etc.  I don’t mean get so relaxed that you don’t do anything at all, but just strive to do your best at all times.  When you need help, ask your Father for help.  “Go boldly to the throne of grace to receive help and mercy in your time of need.”  Go get a cookie off the plate.  God will turn everything the devil meant for harm into a blessing.  “He causes all things to work together for good for those who love him and who are called according to His good purpose.”  He loves you.  Be well.
